Dean McCrillis is curator and artist living and working in Portland, Maine. His paintings reference ecology, rural culture and wild places. He is interested in the chaotic balance of natural systems, and how he can achieve this feeling through painting.
“Each of these paintings were made with a particular, but similar intention. To use exploration in color as a means to get me out of my comfort zone. They all came at very different times in my life, and share a significance in their point of “search”. The portrait was done during my last semester in college. The dogs were the beginning of a new body of work just a few years ago. The green figurative piece was created last year.”
Q. If you could offer your younger self any advice at the start of your artistic career, what would it be?”
A. “Get excited about the process of working, rather than the results.”
