Edgar Paredes

b. 1997

Born in Manhattan, raised in lawrence I am for the most part a self taught artist. I say for the most part because i stumbled upon painting as a way of making friends in school. Lawrence is full of artist in every corner being surrounded by my peers who encouraged my to pick up a brush in Highschool here i am almost 15 years later. I never take it for granted, painting at first is hard but after years of trying to express stuff. You end up simplifying and boiling it down to what you beed to get across. Whether it be anger, love, hate, jealousy instead of internalizing it like most do i now have an outlet.

“I only paint what i feel is an Snapshot of my current life. What I love about painting is the attempt at that, even if it ends up in a landfill or in someones house. Every single line that was put down was an attempt at creating something that is hard to put into words, an experience, an auto biography of experiences. I love that I’m not alone in this, that I have an opportunity to express and not only that but to show people who don’t know me or my work a glimpse into my life.”

Q. If you could offer your younger self any advice at the start of your artistic career, what would it be?”

A. “Don’t focus on detail focus on what feels right, red in the corner? Don’t think about it just do it.”
